Things I've Meant To Blog About, Part 1: Nana in PA, Vash's Primary Program, and the Ren. Fair

We got a special treat earlier this month when Nana came out to visit for a week! She's originally from PA so we had to share her with her family a lot of the time, but we definitely had a lot of fun while she was here.

Of course the kids (Baby boy too!), got clothes and books as a welcoming gift. Rhyla loved her sweater so much, she wanted to wear it right then! She was also very insistent that she was going to wear the bracelet Nana got her too. Lucky, I've been saving a bear charm for such a bracelet and it will finally have a home.

Vash also loved his sweater but he wanted to wear it to his Primary Program rehearsal the next day. Despite the fact that I told him it was only a practice at church and not really church, he insisted on wearing a tie.

On the day of the program, Rhyla wanted to wear a headband like mommy, so I busted out this flowered beauty. Doesn't she look sweet?

And because Nana came so far to see Vash, he wanted to be extra spiffed up for the program. Dumbo is hiding his cute bow tie, but you can still see that he let me gel his hair into a mini "Missionary" do. LOL!

Vash was so cute when he got up to speak his line. "I am a child of God because... (Big Gasp and excited face) I can be like Him! (Practically screamed, mind you.)" All my friends agreed he was their favorite part of the show, if only because they thought he was so darn hilarious.

Besides taking Nana to Dellalo's for delicious food and groceries one night, we got to spend a full day at the Renaissance Festival. Lucky it was in town the same week she was.

The kids enjoyed the rides. (We enjoyed watching and resting our aching feet.)

As far as comparing to the fair in AZ, it was generally cheaper and a lot prettier, but the bathrooms were horrifying and it was incredibly hilly. Not an issue if you aren't pregnant and pushing a stroller around, but that wasn't the case. LOL.

Nana and me waiting for the joust. It was a lot of talk and not much action, but we both agreed that the knight we were cheering for was rather cute and strongly debated gift wrapping him and sending him home for Jen. Go SIR JOSEPH!

The kids really enjoyed watching the horses run around, but they especially liked that we were asking them to yell.

For souvenirs, Vash picked a knight's sword and shield. (It's since been painted but I haven't taken pictures yet.)

And Rhyla picked a princess hat. (Go figure. LOL.) The whole time she had it on she folded her hands neatly in her lap and tried to look lady like. It was funny though because she was filthy from all the dirt we were walking in.

Vash trying out a horn. There was NO WAY I was letting them bring that home though.

We met a fairy, but Rhyla seemed upset that she wasn't the Disney sort.

Vash however, was super entranced by her ability to blow glitter all over the place. She also giggled if you touched her wings, and he thought that was hilarious too.

We played a lot of the games, but we were only even somewhat successful at archery. (I'll be honest though; the guy said I did well enough I could have brought home dinner, but I'd guess if things went "Hunger Games" on us the odds would NOT be in my favor. LOL.)

Rhyla called it being Merida and was thrilled to be there. She cried when we ran out of arrows.

Vash even got near the target a few times, but despite how well he handled it, it was yet another thing I refused to bring home when he asked. Maybe when he's twelve. Or thirty. I can't decide.

Vash enjoying his meat on the bone. I enjoyed a bit myself. In fact, I mostly just ate my way around the fair.Meat on the bone, stew in a bread bowl, candied nuts, and a doughnut like treat. What can I say? This baby is a hungry baby!

The kids even got to pet some geese. (Another thing I was like "Aw heck no, we are NOT having a pet goose." LOL. For all the fun we have, I sure say no a lot.)

This is Vash asking if we can bring it home.

And the cutest darn moment of our trip: While we waited for the last show we watched to start, Vash and Rhyla played knight and princess. They ran around and fought my dad, who pretended to be a dragon, and kissed when they were victorious over him. They were so cute, the crowd waiting to watch the show were "Ooing" and "Awing" over them and laughing when they kissed. Yep. I had nothing to say, when I got a few questioning eyes, except that we were an affectionate family and this would be great blackmail when they're teenagers.
