I was pretty sure after I had Vash, that my days of baby showers were over. You know, you have one and people load your up with gifts and well wishes and you're usually on your own for any other babies that follow. But I've been incredibly blessed. With both Rhyla and now with baby number three, someone had stepped up and given me a shower, just to make me feel special and give clothes and diapers to the new baby.
With Rhyla it was my mother in law and my mother that threw me a "Baby Sprinkle." And in my new ward, my ministering angel was Mrs. Janie Christianson. (She's the blonde with the British flag on her back.)
Held at the church building, she went all out and had decorations and food every where. Amberly and Melissa helped a lot too so it turned out really well.
They even built me a diaper cake! (How lucky can a girl get to have two diaper cakes in her lifetime?) We played games and chatted and had a raffle for gift cards at the end.
The funniest game we played, invented by Janie, was called Multitasking. It was a race against another woman where you had to hold a baby, toss vegetables in a frying pan, and maneuver through an obstacle course of toys without touching any of them, all while having a large container of juice strapped to one ankle. Oh... and you couldn't drop any vegetables or you were out. It was hilarious and everyone got super competitive.
After a while, the juices kept breaking off so we decided to hold the juices and tie the babies to our ankles instead. Thank goodness nobody walked in or it would have looked like we were demented/angry mothers or something!
It was a fun shower and I left with a ton of diapers and warm clothes for the little guy. I'm truly grateful for such thoughtful friends and I look forward to repaying the favor some time in the future for them!
Now onto the random fun stuff: Like last time I'll post funny things the kids have said along with the photos.
This is why I never get any sleep. Think they're attached much?
Vash: when asked what he was waiting for, "I'm not waiting. I'm hanging out."
Mickey bats. Just a fun craft we did one day. I finished knitting some baby hats around the time we made these and Vash asked if he could knit too. I told him I'd teach him when he was older. He replied, "Yeah, I'll make pretty bats and baby hats and sweaters. All those things."
Just towing a cooler through Me-ma and Pe-pa's back yard.
Any time he gets his way Vash announces, "My happy face is going up!"
This picture is already pretty well known in our family but I needed it here for our records. One of the mothers in preschool asked me which child was mine and when I said Vash she just gasps and says, "Oh, every time I see him I just want to squeeze those cheeks!"
Rhyla basically throws herself into Craig's arms every time he comes home.
And every night that he's gone, the kids whisper "Night Daddy" and blow him kisses. I love that they have faith those kisses will reach him no matter how far away he is.
She actually does this all the time; Sneaks downstairs and then falls asleep at the foot of them.
Whenever we drive home from my parents' house, which is literally just up the street, Rhyla asks, "Can I ride in the car's bottom?" (She means the very back/trunk area. I just find it hilarious that she gave it an anatomical name.)
All hail Princess Rhyla.
Said as she pointed out the window to a tree in the yard,"It's a bong bong tree! Where the cocoa beans live!"
Can you say Mini Craig?
After a discussion about what nicknames are: Vash asks, "Can I call Rhyla 'Apples'? That's a nick word right?"
A poison apple cookie. Actually made these with the scouts one night. Thought it was cute enough to share. The eyes are raisins. For some reason, Rhyla doesn't call them that. After bringing me a container of raisins, she says. "I got the seasons!"
Having a donut with my girl while we wait for it to be time to get Vash from preschool.
After sniffing my face, Rhyla says, "I smell your eyes. They're so beautiful!"
She wanted a picture with her teeth showing. And her responses to almost everything now are either, "Nopes" or "Yeps."
"Take a picture of my sugar face!"
Heading out to the park for some ball.
When a package arrived at our house: Vash, "Is it a present?" Rhyla, "Is it for me?"
Vash looking like a soccer stud. Not sure if I mentioned this before but the first time Vash saw his preschool, which is a really big old church, he asked, "Is that the haunted mansion?"
Vash "Be-tending" to cut Rhyla's hair. That's right. He says, "Be- tending."
One of Vash's beautiful creations. And what he says after he builds anything he's proud of; "Will you send a picture to Daddy?"
Punk Rhyla.
When we asked if she wanted to watch a movie while we worked on a puzzle: "No! It's Puzzle Time!" (Hops up and begins "working" on the puzzle with us.)
Vash and Rhyla singing the baby a song. I'll have to record it sometime because it's the same song every time and one Vash made up. So cute.
After staring at my tummy for a long time, Vash asked, "When the baby is finished growing... will he crawl out of your mouth?"
Just a shot of Rhyla's perfect dancer feet.
You know what happens when you have sunscreen that looks like a glue stick? Your child thinks that glue sticks should be rubbed all over her face whenever she gets her hands on one: Despite her mother screaming, "But it's glue! Not sunscreen!"
Hmm. I think if I get anymore of these pictures, I'll be able to start up a blog called, "Awkward Ways In Which I Find My Child Sleeping."
Sharing some lunch with her Daddy at the mall.
This little girl has a really good memory. The one day we decided to go to the mall instead of the park while Vash was at school, she burst into tears the moment we missed the turn that would have taken us to the park. Knew without us saying a word that we were going somewhere else.
Carving our pumpkin with Daddy for FHE.
Vash, instead of just saying no, "I'm pretty sure NO."
I just like Rhyla's smile in this one.
And I love the "You've got to be kidding me" face in this one.
For no apparent reason Rhyla once said, "Umbrelly is my favorite color pink."
Another of Vash's cities.
"Burry Rito." (Or as we pronounce it, Burrito.)
My sleeping beauty.
Yelled at Vash, who was reaching for a toy, "Don't touch him! He's a pretty octopus."
Vash sobbed that he wasn't tired. Then he promptly threw himself on the floor... and fell asleep.
Vash usually tells very lengthy and (honestly hard to follow) stories. But one morning he says to me, (ending on an up note I might add) "Last night, I had a dream..."
LONG PAUSE. Me: "Want to tell me about it?"
Vash, as he walks away," No..."
This is her smug, I'm eating chips for lunch face.
After doing something funny she usually instructs me thusly: "Laugh Mommy! Laugh!"
Like two little bugs in a rug.
Sighed softly to himself as Rhyla sang a lullaby: "Oh Rhyla... that's a lovely song."
My fashionista. Fishing hats are so in!
Rhyla's been earning treats as we potty train her. (Necklaces, small toys, crayons, etc.) Well one night she was walking around the house asking me, "Where's my precious baby?" So I hold up every doll she owns and she keeps shaking her head and saying, "No, I need my precious baby!" Took me forever to figure it out. Want to know what her "Precious Baby" is?
See that tiny pink duck in the picture? Bingo. LOL. Carries that thing with her every where.
Zoning out like a teenager.
When asked about his big stretches; "I'm stretching my bones... so I don't get older."
And just for fun: 36 1/2 week Pregnant belly, baby number three. Getting there!
