2012: Christmas, Rhyla's Birthday, and New Year's Eve

Well, we've had a great holiday season, even though it was our first away from the majority of our families.

On Christmas Eve, Craig helped the kids make pretzel cookies. There's so easy but delicious!

Then for dinner we kept the Smith family tradition of baking pizzas. The kids especially loved making the pizzas right at the table.

Just a picture of our tree. The kids, Rhyla mostly, kept trying to open the presents before Christmas morning so we actually had them hidden in our closet until the night before.

Another tradition is to read The Night Before Christmas, while wearing a Santa hat and ugly pajamas. We skipped the pajamas this year but the kids looked cute anyway.

The next morning we got right to opening presents. Vash's favorite thing was his doctor set. I think Craig, Rhyla and I, along with every stuffed animal in the house, got about thirty check ups each.

Once we got Rhyla to want to open things, she seemed to like her Princess Castle the best. When she first woke up, while Vash went right to the presents, she went to the table and asked for breakfast. She didn't want to open anything until she'd eaten.

We even skyped Me-ma and Pe-pa so they could feel like they were still involved even though we're so far apart.

The kids even got their wish and we had a white Christmas. It's been really beautiful out here and we've played outside a few different times.

I'll tell you; we've got some sweet kids. The other day I gave the kids applesauce. I opened Rhyla's first because she's littler. But she wouldn't eat hers until Vash's was opened! I thought it was so nice that she didn't want to make him jealous.

And Vash was such a little grown up the other day! He was picking on Rhyla so I told him not to be rude. He started to pout like he normally would and walked away for a few minutes. When he finally came back, he walked right up to me and, completely straight faced, says, "Mommy, I need to talk to you. It hurts my feelings when you call me rude. And it was rude, but you're rude (he points at me here)! It's ok though. I don't want to fight, because I love you!"
It was so darling. I told him I loved him too and asked if he'd forgive me.
He says, "Yes, I give you pink cake and chocolate doughnuts."
That sounded more like my little boy.

Rhyla turned two this last week! Because of the large quantity of snow we got, no one was able to make it to her birthday party. She didn't mind. We ate yummy food, played with bubbles, made a snowman, opened gifts, and watched The Lorax.

She really liked it when we sang happy birthday to her. Once she'd blown the candles out and we clapped, she asked if we could do it again. (BTW, hot chocolate cupcakes are amazing!)
Also, Rhyla's newest trick is pretty hilarious. She points at you, moves her arm in a circle and says "Circle Mommy!" or "Circle Daddy!" She likes it best when you do it back. "Circle Rhyla!"

Well, we closed out 2012 with a shopping trip. We got the kids winter boots and tried to find some for me, but surprisingly, they don't have much to choose from. We spent the rest of the day cleaning and I baked cookies to take to the New Year's Eve party. The Bishop and his secretary stopped by to officially welcome us to the ward and get to know us better. He's nicer when he's not in a hurry. Right after they left, we went to the party which was hosted by another family in the ward. We ate and visited for a long time while the kids ran rampant around the house. Then we played Apples to Apples: I've got to say, it's amazingly fun when you're playing with like minded people. We were laughing almost the whole night. At about ten thirty we had to call it quits because the babies were ready for bed, so we left even though the party was still in full swing. Obviously the kids went to bed and Craig and I rang in the new year by doing what we usually do: I sat and worked on my book while Craig watched television. We did kiss at midnight though so hopefully that means we'll get the good luck!
Hope everyone had a safe and happy new year! We wish the best to you and yours and we also wish the best of luck in making and keeping your resolutions!

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!
